<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid deterioration of the drive performance by deciding if performance deterioration of an optical disk device is caused by the degradation of a laser diode or due to the stain on the optical component. <P>SOLUTION: The current-to-light emitting quality characteristic of a laser driver when manufactured is compared with that at the time when given time elapses. When the performance of the optical disk device deteriorates, it is decided if the cause is the degradation in the laser driver or the stain of a foreign material adhering to the optical component, and the device is configured to avoid a read/write error. At a service shop of a manufacturer for the optical disk device, it is made easy to analyze the cause of the performance deterioration of the optical disk device and repair it. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
