<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cassette housing device in which the defective vertical movement of the tape cassette housing part hardly occurs without making the cassette housing device large. <P>SOLUTION: This tape cassette housing part 2 is freely movable in a vertical direction to be in two states: a first state (A) in which the tape cassette housing part 2 is made close to a main deck 1 and a second state (B) in which the tape cassette housing part 2 is away from the main deck 1. The tape cassette housing part 2 is provided with a metal pin 206, and the main deck 1 side is provided with a metal lock lever 101 having an engaging part 101a that holds the tape cassette housing part 2 in the first state by being engaged with the pin 206.
