PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure a volume of a liquid dispensed into a reaction vessel by simple constitution, without detecting a liquid face level as in the prior art, and without using a one-dimensional image pick-up device, and to detect the propriety of the liquid volume in the reaction vessel so as to enhance reliability of an analytical result, when sucking the liquid dispensed into the reaction vessel by a syringe. SOLUTION: This method/instrument is provided with the reaction vessel dispensed with the liquid, the syringe for sucking the liquid, a flow passage connected to the syringe, a nozzle connected to the flow passage, a nozzle holding mechanism for moving the nozzle inside the reaction vessel, and a control part for controlling operations of the syringe and the nozzle holding mechanism. A passing-through time from a tip to a terminal end of the liquid passing through a fixed point inside the flow passage is compared with a prefound predicted time to measure the liquid volume dispensed into the reaction vessel, when sucking the liquid dispensed into the reaction vessel by a syringe.
