PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for isomerizing an isomeric mixture of polycyclic alicyclic polycarboxylic acids into an isomer having a high heat stability by a simple operation in a high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing the polycyclic alicyclic polycarboxylic acid is characterized by maintaining the stereoisomeric mixture of 9-22C polycyclic alicyclic polycarboxylic acids at≥170°C temperature and lower than the melting temperature of an isomer having the highest melting point in the mixture under gas inert to the mixture to isomerize the lower melting point polycyclic alicyclic polycarboxylic acids to that of the higher melting point.
