PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the capacity of an inverter by sharing the duty of each phase, without concentrating the current to the specified phase of an inverter, in a controller for a DC motor, using variable voltage/variable frequency control which can cope with an AC motor by equipment renewal, etc. in the future. SOLUTION: An armature 35a of the DC motor 35 is connected between an output end, which has short-circuited the output ends of two phases among the three phases of three-phase inverters 26-31 and one end of the input terminal on DC side of the inverter, and also a field 35f is connected between the output end of the remaining single phase and the other of the input terminal on DC side, and each inverter is chopper-controlled so that the two phases of the inverter connected to the armature 35a output currents for a certain time, in the order in the same cycle and in the fixed polarity, thereby letting an armature current flow.
