PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an indirect communication apparatus which uses a standard facsimile function to obtain transfer destination information and notifies the e-mail address of the transfer destination of the occurrence of a receiving error when the receiving error occurs. SOLUTION: A transfer destination information table 7a obtained by storing the e-mail address of the transfer destination for each particular information such as a calling source telephone number, a sub-address and a password is stored in a RAM 7. A main control part 1 receives the particular information obtained by prescribed communication procedures as well as image data by facsimile, refers to the transfer destination information table 7a to retrieve the transfer destination corresponding to the received particular information, and indirectly transfers the received image data to the retrieved transfer destination. When the image data can not be normally received upon receiving the image data, that the purport is notified to the e-mail address of the transfer destination by using e-mail.
