PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat treatment apparatus capable of carrying out a stable heat treatment of precursor fiber strands or flameproofed fiber strands traveling through forming a path inside the apparatus, while preventing generated gas stream from descending and solid/liquid mixed foreign matter including fluffs and tar from dropping onto the path and preventing the strands from contamination, breakage and deterioration. SOLUTION: The heat treatment apparatus 2 is provided for carrying out a heat treatment of the precursor fiber strands or flameproofed fiber strands traveling through forming the path 4 horizontally inside the heat treatment apparatus main body 3 and in parallel to the sidewall of the main body 3. In this apparatus 2, the top 6 of the main body 3 is provided with an exhaust port 10, and a flow-corrective plate 16 covering beneath the exhaust port 10 is provided under the exhaust port 10 and above the path 4, apart from the inner wall 12 at the strand inlet side and the inner wall 14 at the strand outlet side.
