<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize sheet feeding operation by a simple configuration. <P>SOLUTION: This sheet supply device provided with an elastic support member 2 is provided with a following movable member 5 arranged in contact with the uppermost sheet S1 of a bundle of sheets S loaded on a sheet tray 1, a restraining mechanism 6 restraining the elastic support member 2 in accordance with loading amount of sheets S to keep a position of the uppermost sheet S1 of the bundle of sheets S loaded on the sheet tray 1 at a substantially fixed position, and a release mechanism 7 releasing a restraint condition by the restraining mechanism 6 in the interlocking relationship with moving of the following movable member 5. The restraining mechanism 6 is provided with an engaging member 11 moving together with the elastic support member 2 and a restraining member 12 restraining moving of the engaging member 11.
