摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device capable of easily regulating friction resistance between an inner cylinder and an outer cylinder constituting a steering column and certainly realizing desired impact absorbing performance. SOLUTION: The friction resistance between the outer cylinder 3 and the inner cylinder 4 is regulated by forming a plurality of knurling work parts 40, 40 on an outer peripheral surface of the inner cylinder 4 and changing a forming area in the axial length direction and in the peripheral direction of the knurling work parts 40, 40 and projected part height of each of the knurling work parts 40, 40 by making an inner peripheral surface of the outer cylinder 3 with pressure on these knurling work parts 40, 40 on the steering column 2 furnished with the outer cylinder 3 and the inner cylinder 4 fitted on each other along proper length. It is possible to carry out shortening of the steering column caused for impact absorption at the time of secondary collision under work of friction force free to easily regulate between the inner cylinder and the outer cylinder constituting the steering column, the desired impact absorbing performance is realized in high precision and it is useful for security of safety of a driver.
