PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a front electrode for a plasma display panel excellent in conductivity and contrast of a screen. SOLUTION: This front electrode 10 for a plasma display panel is provided with a transparent substrate 15, composite electrodes each comprising a transparent electrode 12 and a bus electrode 11 formed on the transparent substrate, and a dielectric layer formed so as to cover the composite electrode; and each bus electrode has a two-layer structure composed by sequentially stacking a black electrode 11a and a bus main electrode 11b from the transparent electrode side. The front electrode is characterized in that black electrode contains 1-30 wt.% of conductive metal powder, 60-98 wt.% of a black metal oxide or/and a black composite alloy, and 1-10 wt.% of glass frit; and the bus main electrode contains 90-99 wt.% of conductive metal powder and 1-10 wt.% of glass frit.
