PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress generation of an operation failure by preventing static electricity generated in a scale or a grid of a magnetic encoder. SOLUTION: A grounding pattern 38 is formed on the scale 10 and connected to a scale base 32 for fixing the scale by a conductor 42. A grounding pattern 40 is formed on the grid 12 and connected to a circuit reference potential by a conductor 44. Conduction between the grid 12 and the scale 10 is established by a conductive sliding barrel 36 to keep them on the same potential. When an insulating article is used as the sliding barrel, a conductive barrel is provided separately from the barrel, and a conductive barrel connection pattern is formed on the position facing to the conductive barrel on the scale surface, to thereby keep the interval between the scale and the grid on the same potential.
