PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent capable of forming such a liquid crystal alignment film as to exhibit good alignment characteristics and to be shortened in a time in which an after-image is removed after release of an applied voltage in a liquid crystal display element, to provide a polymer used for forming the agent, and to provide a diamine compound used as a monomer for forming the polymer. SOLUTION: This diamine compound which contains an alicyclic radical, for example, methyl lithocholate (3,5-diaminobenzoate), a polyamic acid which is a reaction product of the diamine compound and a tetracarboxylic acid anhydride, an imidized polymer which is formed out of the polyamic acid, the liquid crystal aligning agent which contains the polymer, and the liquid crystal display element which has the liquid crystal alignment film formed out of the agent are provided, respectively.
