PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer capable of highly reliably printing or patterning, by preventing occurrence of nozzle plugging due to evaporation of a solvent when using an ink containing a volatile solvent such as a water-based ink or a solvent-based ink. SOLUTION: In an ink jet printer equipped with a recording head for recording dots on a recording medium placed opposing to a nozzle by discharging droplets from the nozzle, a member for holding a solvent of an ink is provided near the nozzle upstream of the nozzle array to the air current produced between the nozzle surface and the recording medium as the recording medium and the recording head move during recording.
