METHOD FOR SETTING UP PATH IN COMMUNICATION NETWORK WHERE COMMUNICATION IS MADE THROUGH LAYERS, AND COMMUNICATION DEVICE

A path setting method enabling use of request information from a user over a communication network which includes paths of hierarchical upper and lower layers and in which communication between communication devices for which a path is set up is conducted through another communication device for relay. The method comprises a step of allowing a communication device in a path to judge the reachability to the communication device of the destination in the upper layer, a step of sending out a lower layer path set-up request message including route instruction information and band information in an upper layer path set-up request message if it is judged that there is no reachablity, and a step of sending the lower layer path set-up request message to the communication devices on the route to the communication device of the destination.
