If a character input request is made by a user while graphics screen managed by an application (33) is displayed, the application (33) requests a basic processing section (31) to perform character input processing. An execution environment section (32) which has received the character input processing request reports the character input processing request to the basic processing section (31) and enters a display block state. After this, under control of the basic processing section (31), character input is performed. When the character input is complete, the basic processing section (31) terminates display of the character input screen and reports the end of the character input and the character input result to the execution environment section (32). The execution environment section (32) which has received this report releases the display block state and reports the end of the character input and the character input result data to the application (33).
