The stalk removal tool has a conically tapering sleeve (1) which fits over the stalk, the diameter of the sleeve reduced in the vicinity of the bottom opening (3) fitted over the stalk. The sleeve is made of a steel or plastics sheet which is wrapped around to form a cone and held between a pair of manual operating levers (4,5), whicle the bottom opening can be provided with cutting teeth.
