PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector having high safety in which a laser beam is directly cut off when a scanning with the laser beam is not normally performed. SOLUTION: The projector has a laser beam source 10 which modulates and supplies a beam-shaped laser light in response to an image signal, a power source part 40 which supplies power to at least the laser beam source 10, a light scanning part 30 which scans with the beam from the laser beam source 10 at least in one dimensional direction, a power transmission part 60 which is provided between the power source part 40 and the laser beam source 10 and a light scanning detection part 50 which detects the scanning action of the light scanning part 30, and the power transmission part 60 transmits the power from the power source part 40 to the laser beam source 10 when the light scanning part 30 is in a first state, and stops the supply of the beam-shaped laser beam by cutting off the power supply to the laser beam source 10 from the power source part 40 when the light scanning part 30 is in a second state.
