PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copper phthalocyanine halide pigment with a notably reduced content of free copper which impairs the storage stability of paints and inks, promotes oxidation deterioration of e.g. olefinic resins and increases the foaming speed of azodicarboamide type high-temperature foaming agents for plastics, and a method of manufacturing the pigment. SOLUTION: The pigment has a total content of free copper in the pigment of≤200 ppm. The pigment is manufactured by dissolving a crude copper phthalocyanine halide completely in e.g. fuming sulfuric acid, adding the resultant solution to water or ice water to precipitate the halide, filtrating and washing with water, reducing the total content of free copper in the pigment down to 200 ppm or less, and pigmenting the precipitate.
