PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the device noise by making the rotation speed of an optical disk variable using a volume for controlling the sound volume. SOLUTION: A system controller 32 makes the volume control 52 for controlling the sound volume function as the volume control for controlling the rotation speed when a READ command is inputted from a host device. The system controller 32 detects a set position of the volume 52 by a signal from the volume 52 and changes the rotation speed of an optical disk 10 by controlling a servo processor 30 and a driver 14 or a spindle motor SPM 12 according to the sensing position. A user can suppress the noise by reducing the rotation speed by operating the volume 52 when the user is nervous about the air noise etc. of the optical disk 10. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
