A communication terminal included in a network system where communication terminals are connected to a single transmit medium. A priority information acquiring section (11) acquires priority information contained in a packet being transmitted. A priority judging section (13) judges which one of a packet to be transmitted and the packet being transmitted should take priority over each other on the basis of the priority information contained in the packet to be transmitted and the priority information acquired by the priority information acquiring section (11). A jam signal generating section (14) generates a jam signal if the packet to be transmitted is judged that it should take priority. A communication section (15) sends the packet to be transmitted onto a transmission medium until the packet being transmitted is again sent after the jam signal is stopped.
