摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce volumetric change during the storage and desorption of alkali metal ions including lithium ions, and to improve charge and discharge characteristics and large current charge and discharge characteristics. SOLUTION: A negative electrode material is made up of compound particles in which the whole or partial surfaces of inorganic particles that permit the storage and desorption of lithium ions are covered with ceramics. The inorganic particles contain at least one species selected from the group consisting of Si, Sn and Zn as a constitutional element. Ceramics are made up of oxides, nitrides or carbides containing at least one species of element selected from the group consisting of Si, Ti, Al and Zr, and ceramics cover 20 to 95 percent of the total surface area of inorganic particles.
