PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for searching a video image under broadcasting or a video image in a database at high speed, and a video self-organization method for sorting and aligning partial video images in a video image on the basis of identity. SOLUTION: The apparatus includes a means for inputting a video image sequentially for each frame, a means for extracting a feature amount from the inputted frame image, a means for compressing the feature amount in a time base direction, a means for sequentially storing the compressed feature amount, a means for sequentially collating the feature amounts in the storage means with a feature amount of a separately inputted frame image, and a means for temporarily storing the processes of collation, and the collation means includes a means for searching a matched video image portion while updating the processes of collation.
