PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To feed water to an economizer tube mounted in a combustion chamber even when the water is not fed to a drum in starting a fire tube boiler. SOLUTION: In this fire tube boiler wherein the economizer tube 13 is mounted in a gas passage 12 formed in the combustion chamber 12, and water is fed to the drum 5 through the economizer tube 13 to make ashes and chloride in a combustion gas attach to the economizer tube 13, a return pipe 20 is mounted to return water from an outlet side of the economizer tube 13 to the water feed tank 14. By circulating water between the water feed tank 14 and the economizer tube 13, water can be fed to the economizer tube 13, even when the water feed to the drum 5 is stopped or the water feed is reduced.
