The invention relates to a device for separating particles (10) from the air, especially for filtering dust in a vacuum cleaner, said device comprising a housing (1)containing a motor/fan unit (11) for sucking air loaded with particles via an inlet (8), guiding said air through a ceramic filter (6), the particles (10) falling on the surface (18) of the ceramic filter on the inflow side, and for blowing out cleaned air on the outflow side via an outlet (19). The aim of the invention is to provide one such device with a high suction power and thus a high degree of effectiveness over a long period of time. To this end, the inventive device comprises a cleaning device (31) for acoustically removing particles (10) deposited on the ceramic filter (6). In this way, once the deposited particles (10) have been removed from the ceramic filter (6), a low drop in pressure is created thereon and the degree of effectiveness of the device is high. The suction power is maintained over a long period of time.
