<p>Liquid crystalline compounds containing 1,4-cyclohexylene and/or 1,3-dioxan-5,2-diyl groups and other 6-membered rings (optionally fluorinated), plus 2,2,3,3-tetrafluoro-1,4-butylene or octafluoro-1,4-butylene bridging groups. Liquid crystalline (LC) compounds of formula R-A-(B) n-Q-(C) m-Z-D-(E) l-Y (I) are new. n, m, l : 0 or 1; A, B, C : 1,4-cyclohexylene (Cyc) or 1,3-dioxan-5,2-diyl (Diox); Q : -CH 2CF 2CF 2CH 2- or -(CF 2) 4-; Z : a single bond or -CF 2O-, with the proviso that Z is a single bond if m is zero; D, E : Cyc, Diox, cyclohexene-1,4-diyl or its 2-fluoro derivative, cyclohexene-4,1-diyl or its 2-fluoro derivative, cyclohexene-3,6-diyl or its 1- or 2-fluoro derivative, or Ar; Ar : 1,4-phenylene substituted with groups L1-L 4>at positions 3, 5, 6 and 2 respectively; L 1>-L 4>H, F or Cl; R : H or optionally substituted 1-10C alkyl or alkoxy or 2-10C alkenyl (all optionally with one or more CH 2groups replaced by -O-); Y : as for R, or also F, Cl, CN, OCF 3, CF 3or SF 5. Independent claims are also included for (1) LC media with at least two LC compounds, containing at least one compound of formula (I) (2) electro-optical LC displays containing LC media as above.</p> |
