An apparatus for forming a continuous strip 12 from a web 1, e.g. of rubber, comprises a conveyer 2 for feeding the web in a stepwise manner over a cutting block 3, a knife 7 cooperating with the block and having at least one cutting edge arranged to cut the web at an angle to its longitudinal direction such that alternate knife cuts start from one lateral extremity and the remaining cuts start from said other lateral extremity and terminate short of said lateral extremity. The conveyer roller 5 may be driven stepwise by means of an hydraulic or pneumatic piston-and-cylinder device 18. The knife 7 may have two curved blades 9, 10 mounted on a shaft which is rotated by a motor (11, Fig. 2); alternatively, the knife may have only one blade and be raised and lowered to effect the cutting. Tension rollers (14, 15) are provided.</p> |
