<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for a cornea intraparenchymal reflection correction surgery using a laser bean that can photoablate much of target cornea parenchyma without heating tissue, not targeted for ablation, up to a harmful temperature by short scanning time. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus includes an optical system for forming the laser beam and this shaped laser beam has a waist at a predetermined distance from the optical system. The pulse duration and pulse energy of the laser beam are selected to cause ablation to occur in front of the waist. A pulse energy is used that exceeds the minimum pulse energy required for ablation at the waist. By ablating in front of the waist, a relatively large ablation zone is created. Furthermore, during the laser scanning, the optical system maintains a uniform waist for the laser beam. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
