PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the volume of a dead space D generated inside a cylindrical exterior can to the minimum in a nonaqueous electrolyte battery having an electrode wound-up body, obtained by winding a sheet like positive electrode large in thickness dimension and short in length together with a negative electrode and a separator, as a battery element. SOLUTION: A winding central portion C of the wound-up body is featured by forming it in an elliptical shape. And also, it is characterised in that the dimensional difference (L1-L2) between a long axis L1 and a short axis L2 of an ellipse of the central portion C of the wound-up body is featured by setting it to roughly the same dimension as a total value (W) of thickness dimension of a positive and a negative electrodes 3, 4 and a separator 5. Accordingly, since the wound-up body can be formed close to a cylindrical shape by reducing overhang dimensions outward from the positive and the negative electrodes 3, 4 regarding a wound-up end portion E, the volume of the dead space D inside a cylindrical exterior can 2 can be suppressed to the minimum.
