PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an associative memory capable of self-learning with high throughput. SOLUTION: This associative memory is provided with a CAM part for searching, upon the reception of a search command or a search and learn command, for retrieved data and data stored in each CAM word and outputting the result of the searching, a learning contents temporary storage part for temporarily storing the retrieved data and a free address signal, and outputting the result of comparing the retrieved data with the held retrieved data when a false is obtained as the search result of the search and learn command, a learning control unit for holding the retrieved data and the free address signal in the learning contents temporary storage part when the false is obtained as the search result of the search and learn command, and storing the retrieved data in the CAM word corresponding to the free address of the CAM part, and an output control part for outputting one of the search result output from the CAM part and the comparing the result output from the learning contents temporary storage part according to predetermined priority.
