PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the capability of detecting defects existing near a surface of an industrial component when executing a phased array ultrasonic inspection for the component. SOLUTION: An ultrasonic inspection method includes exciting a first set of transducers (12) in an array (14) to introduce ultrasonic energy into the component (20), generating a number of echo signals using a second set of transducers (16) in the array as receive elements, and processing the echo signals.
