PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact material for a circuit breaker consisting of a Cu-Mo based alloy or the like capable of improving breaking properties by optimizing various metallurgical conditions instead of the conventional Cu-W alloy and Cu-W-(trace)Mo alloy contacts, and to provide a vacuum circuit breaker. SOLUTION: The contact material for a circuit breaker consists of an alloy containing 60 to 75 wt.% Mo with a mean particle diameter of 0.4 to 6μm and 0.002 to 9 wt.% W with a mean particle diameter of 0.4 to 4μm, and the balance Cu as the main component, and in which Mo and W are integrated, and the size of the integrated MoW is controlled to the range of 0.4 to 10μm. By incorporating the auxiliary component W into the main component Mo in this constitution, the heat resistance of the main component Mo is improved, the roughness of the contact face after breaking is improved, and its breaking properties can be improved.
