<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a bleaching agent exhibiting excellent effects; and to provide a skin care preparation for external use and a food, exhibiting excellent bleaching effects by formulating the bleaching agent exhibiting the excellent effects. <P>SOLUTION: Alpha-D-Glucopyranosylglycerol is used as the bleaching agent. The α-D-glucopyranosylglycerol is formulated with the skin care preparation for external use as the bleaching agent.
