PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for adjusting exposure light quantity by which irregularity in an image can be easily checked in an image for adjustment formed to adjust the light quantity of a light source in each channel in an image forming apparatus using a multi-channel light source, and therefore, irregularity in the output image can be decreased, and to provide an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: In the method for adjusting exposure light quantity, when the exposure light quantity is adjusted in an image forming apparatus which exposes a color photosensitive material to the light from a multi-channel light source based on the dot image data to form and output an image, the image for adjustment is exposed to produce lower density than by normal exposure, and the exposure light quantity of the light source in each channel is determined based on the output result of the above exposure.
