ERROR DETECTION AND CORRECTION IN LAYERED THREE-DIMENSIONAL STORAGE ARCHITECTURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance ratio of data words to the total number of words of encoding data stored in a three-dimensional data storage medium. SOLUTION: Space-efficient method for encoding data in the three-dimensional data storage medium is provided. Detection and correction of a fixed failure mode of a class of the three-dimensional data storage medium are performed by using recognition and characterization of the failure mode of the class of the three-dimensional data storage medium, selection and combination of fixed error control encoding techniques and selected and combined error control encoding techniques.
