The alignment has an axis of rotation for the crankshaft (4) of an internal combustion engine with a locator and piloting tool (8) located radially by the first locator. A stator (5) of the electric motor is aligned to the second locator provided on the piloting tool, while the rotor (6) is aligned to the crankshaft. A spacer (7) is provided allowing relative movement if the rotor assembly and not tightly secured to the block (1). An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for aligning a rotor of an electric motor.
