The burner (10) has an evaporator (18) adjacent to a primary burner chamber (20). This chamber is separated from a secondary chamber (22) by a baffle ring (24). The evaporator system is usable with many types of hydrocarbon fuels. The primary combustion chamber has a large number of channels (19) for admission of combustion air. The baffle ring has a large circular central hole (26) surrounded by a ring of e.g. 12 small holes (28).
