Method for adjusting an illumination parameter of an image sensor, especially in a motor vehicle, whereby: at least an image sensor is used to produce an image; dependent on the image at least an image section is selected and at least a section of the image is selected that contains an object within the surroundings captured in the image. The illumination parameter is adjusted based on a characteristic value, especially the brightness distribution, in the selected image section. An independent claim is made for a device for adjusting at least an illumination parameter for an image sensor in a motor vehicle.
