A flameproofing agent containing titanium- and/or titanyl- phosphinates is new. A flameproofing agent containing titanium- and/or titanyl-phosphinates of formula (I) and (II) is new. [Image] R 1 and R 2optionally substituted, optionally cyclic 1-10C alkyl or 6-10C aryl, 7-18C alkaryl or 7-18C aralkyl; R 3optionally substituted, optionally cyclic1-10C alkylene, 6-10C arylene, 7-18C alkarylene or 7-18C aralkylene; and x : 0-1.9. An independent claim is also included for thermoplastic or thermosetting polymer molding compositions containing (I) and/or (II).
