PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) containing a 3-hydroxy-(phenylsulfanyl) alkanoic acid or a unit of its aromatic ring substitution product having a phenylsulfanyl structure in the side chain, its production method, a novel monomer compound of its starting material, a charging control agent to be used for an electrostatic charge developing toner which highly contributes to the environmental preservation and the like and, simultaneously, has high performance and improved dispersibility with the use of the PHA, a toner binder containing the charging control agent, an electrostatic charge developing toner, and furthermore an image forming method and an image forming apparatus which use the electrostatic charge developing toner. SOLUTION: The PHA contains a unit to be shown by chemical formula (1) [wherein R is arbitrarily selected from a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, CN, NO<SB>2</SB>, COOR', SO<SB>2</SB>R" (wherein R' is H, Na, K, CH<SB>3</SB>or C<SB>2</SB>H<SB>5</SB>; and R" is OH, ONa, OK, a halogen atom, OCH<SB>3</SB>or OC<SB>2</SB>H<SB>5</SB>), CH<SB>3</SB>, C<SB>2</SB>H<SB>5</SB>, C<SB>3</SB>H<SB>7</SB>, C(CH<SB>3</SB>)<SB>2</SB>H and C(CH<SB>3</SB>)<SB>3</SB>; and x is an integer of 1-8] in the molecule.
