A papermaking assembly has a moving paper or carton web (14) that moves (L) over wetting jets (16). The web outer margins are sealed before and after the wetting zone (12) by transverse seals (20). One or both of the seals incorporates an air jet (22). The transverse jet (22) extends the full width of the web. A transverse air jet is located both before and after the wetting zone. Each jet is directed into the wetting zone.
