PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shredder facilitated in the operation of a switch for altering the operation state of a shredding mechanism. SOLUTION: The shredder is constituted so as to shred a shredding target inserted from an opening by the shredding mechanism and the switch for altering the operation state of the shredding mechanism is arranged so as to surround the opening. The switch is especially a switch for stopping the operation of the shredding mechanism. A detection part is arranged so as to detect even a case that any part of the switch is pushed.
