PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treating appliance with improved maneuverability. SOLUTION: The surface treating appliance 200, such as a vacuum cleaner, includes a main body 210, a surface treating head 230, and a support assembly 220. The support assembly is rollably mounted on the main body 210 for allowing the main body 210 to be rolled along a surface. The support assembly 220 also houses a component member of the appliance such, as a motor for driving a surface-agitating device. Alternatively, or additionally, the support assembly may accommodate a fluid inlet 531 for receiving a fluid flow, a fluid outlet 535 for exhausting the fluid, and a means for acting on the fluid flow received by the inlet such as a filter or suction apparatus.
