PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wastewater treatment method which can be used for wastewater treatment, and is effective especially in the wet oxidation treatment of wastewater containing a large amount of oxidizable substances. SOLUTION: The wastewater treatment method where oxygen-containing gas is supplied to treat the oxidizable substances using a solid catalyst performs the wastewater treatment through (1) a heating process, (2) a low oxygen operation process, and (3) a steady operation process. In the low oxygen operation process, the supply amount of the oxygen-containing gas is set so that a ratio of the amount of oxygen in supplied oxygen-containing gas to the consumption of oxygen at the maximum efficiency of wastewater treatment is lower than that of the steady operation process (3), and the wet oxidation treatment is carried out.
