A centrifuge (1), comprising a chamber (2) and a shaft (3) mounted one inside the other and rotating about a common axis (4), has one motor (20) to drive the chamber and a second motor (30) to drive the shaft. The axes of the two motors and the shaft are all coaxial, the motors being synchronous with permanent magnets and located at the same end of the machine in one housing (50). The drive shafts (10, 11) for the chamber and shaft are concentric and enclosed within the rotors of the two motors.
