Methods and apparatus to perform spread spectrum encoding and decoding (100) for broadcast communications are disclosed. In one example, a method of encoding (1300) data into program content may include determining a value of data to be encoded into the program content and inserting a first code into a first location in the program content. Further, the method may include inserting a second code into the program content, wherein the second code is inserted into the program content at a second location relative to the first location and that is related to the value of the data.
