PURPOSE: An image defect correcting device and method are provided to prevent a white line generated due to a point defect in a vertical CCD(Charge Coupled Device) from being noticeable and restrain resolution from being decreased. CONSTITUTION: An image defect correcting device includes a recording unit(25), a correction value calculating unit(26), and a correcting unit(27). The recording unit records an X address for identifying a vertical line of pixels corresponding to a vertical CCD having a point defect. The correction value calculating unit calculates a correction value from a luminance signal corresponding to at least one pixel at a predetermined position on the identified vertical line and a luminance signal corresponding to at least one pixel at a predetermined position on a vertical line other than the identified vertical line. The correcting unit corrects the value of the luminance signal corresponding to the vertical line based on the correction value.
