PURPOSE: A flat type fluorescent lamp is provided to improve a luminescence efficiency and a brightness by obstructing defective discharge paths. CONSTITUTION: An inner space for discharge is sealed by a lamp enclosure body. Several pairs of discharge electrodes(17) are installed at both sides of the lamp enclosure body. Several pipe-shaped spacers(19) are arranged in the inner space of the lamp enclosure. A straight discharge path(A) is made between a pair of discharge electrodes and a defective discharge path(B) is made between an odd pair of discharge electrodes. The pipe-shaped spacers are disposed between two straight discharge paths wherein the axes of the pipe-shaped spacers cross the straight discharge paths. Therefore, the pipe-shaped spacers are capable of obstructing the defective discharge paths without blocking the straight discharge paths.
