The angle through which it is required to rotate a shaft 32 is stored in binary coded form in a register 6, the outputs from all but the two most significant stages of which control switches 7-10 to selectively connect resistances 2-5 in series with resistances 21 or 22 which are in parallel so that the sine and cosine of the stored angle are represented by the A.C. signals on leads 15 and 20 respectively. The signals are applied to the coils of a resolver 24, the two most significant bits in the register 6 being fed to a quadrant switching circuit 23 so that the outputs on the leads 15, 20 are applied to the appropriate coils of resolver 24. The alternating magnetic field produced by the energized windings induces a voltage in a rotor winding 29 of the resolver which is applied to a servomotor 31 to drive the rotor via the shaft 32 to an angular position in which the voltage induced in the rotor is zero, i.e. when the shaft 32 has rotated through an angle represented by binary coded input signal.</p> |
