The recuperation of copper from a spent ammoniac engraving solution by electrolysis with regeneration of the engraving solution

The recuperation of copper, found in the form of Cu(II), from a spent ammonia engraving solution comprises: (a) placing the engraving solution in an electrolyzer, incorporating at least one cell containing an anode and a cathode, where it is in simultaneous contact with both anode and cathode; (b) adding ammonia to the engraving solution; (c) electrolyzing the solution to obtain metallic copper at the cathode and a recharged solution made up of a mixture of an ammonium salt and ammonia.
