<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a large screen touch panel allowing touch input via a large screen. <P>SOLUTION: In this large screen touch panel system 10 including a plastic screen 12, the screen is irradiated with an infrared light source 18 from the front side of the screen 12, and in this condition, a person touches the screen manually. A camera 22 photographs the back face of the screen 12 via a mirror 20 and gives its image signal to a computer 26. On the basis of this image signal, a shaded area, in which the infrared ray is cut off by a hand, is detected by the computer 26. When the shaded area has a proper size (a size of the hand, for example), the coordinates of the shade area center are detected as a touched position on the screen 12.
